Chris Paul Hints at NBA Retirement: “One More Year at Most”
NBA veteran point guard Chris Paul has hinted that the 2025–2026 season could mark the end of his storied career in the league. Speaking at the American Black Film Festival over the weekend, the 40-year-old said his time on the court is drawing to a close.
“One more year, at the most,” Paul said during the panel, signaling that his focus is shifting toward life beyond basketball.
Paul cited family as the main reason for considering retirement, saying, “I’ve spent more than half my life in the NBA. It’s been a blessing, but the years you miss with your kids and family, you can’t get those back.”
The 12-time All-Star played for the San Antonio Spurs last season, starting all 82 games. He averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game — a steady contribution from the veteran floor general.
Currently a free agent, Paul is reportedly evaluating his options and looking for a team that feels like the right fit for his final season. Although he has been linked to former teams like the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns, as well as the Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, and Milwaukee Bucks, several offers have already been declined.
Paul’s long career includes stints with the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, and Golden State Warriors. His leadership and consistency on the court have earned him a reputation as one of the greatest point guards in NBA history.
