Beijing to Host the World’s First Humanoid Robot Sports Games

Beijing, China — A historic milestone in technology and sports is about to unfold in Beijing. The city will host the first-ever World Humanoid Robot Sports Games (WHRSG) on August 15–17, 2025, at two iconic Olympic venues: the Bird’s Nest and the Ice Ribbon.

This global event is part of the World Robot Conference 2025 and will bring together more than 100 teams from across the world, including top universities, research institutes, and tech companies. A total of 19 events are scheduled, divided into three main categories:

  • Athletic Sports: sprinting, long jump, gymnastics, and robot football.

  • Artistic Performance: solo and group dance routines.

  • Real-World Simulation Challenges: including medical delivery tasks, hotel service simulations, and logistics operations.

According to the official website of the Beijing Municipal Government, all participating robots must be humanoid in form (bipedal), fully autonomous without external cables, and controlled either automatically or semi-autonomously. The competition is not just for show—it is designed to highlight the practical applications of robotics and artificial intelligence in everyday life.

“These competitions will demonstrate how far humanoid robot technology has evolved, and how such systems may become part of real-world solutions in the future,” stated an official press release on english.beijing.gov.cn.

In addition to the main events, audiences will enjoy exhibition matches featuring non-humanoid robots in sports like basketball and badminton.

This landmark event is open to the public and will be broadcast globally via major streaming platforms, showcasing to the world that the future is no longer imaginary—it’s competing on the field.
